Are European companies still world leaders? Our new series “Made in Europe” takes a look around machine halls and production facilities.

Europe's industry is back: innovative and financially strong! European inventions and patents secure global market leadership in many areas. Clear EU rules ensure fair competition. And loans from the European Investment Bank enable young companies to enter the global market.

When it comes to hydrogen technology, European companies are playing in the top league worldwide. Companies from the EU are pioneers when it comes to producing synthetic fuels from renewable energies. In electrolysers made in Europe, wind and solar power are used to split water into its components: oxygen and hydrogen. Hydrogen is used to produce “green steel” – or fuel for machines, ships and aircraft. No climate-damaging CO2 is emitted – only water vapor.

Take SUNFIRE from Germany, for example, a leading global producer of electrolysers. In just a few years, the Dresden-based start-up has become a global player with a financial cushion of one billion euros.

Sunfire co-founder Christian von Olshausen in an interview with Euronews: "Building a green hydrogen infrastructure in Europe can develop a strong European industry. We must not make ourselves smaller than we are in Europe. We are outstanding engineers, we have outstanding systems for driving innovation, scaling up technologies and deploying them. We have a hydrogen market in Europe, making us one of the few regions in the world that can do this.”
