Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a fire at the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's private home in north London.

The blaze damaged the house's entrance but caused no injuries.

The man is being held in custody after being arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

The police force said his arrest also relates to two other incidents, and officers are looking into the possibility that they are linked.

As well as the fire in the early hours of Monday at Starmer's private house in Kentish Town, police are investigating a nearby vehicle fire on Sunday and a door fire at a property in another part of north London on 8 May.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that its counterterrorism unit was leading the investigation because of the property's “previous connections with a high-profile public figure".

Police are treating all three fires as suspicious at this time, and enquiries are ongoing.

Since being elected in July, Starmer has lived with his family in the prime minister’s official residence at 10 Downing Street.
