Azerkhalcha preserves Azerbaijan’s UNESCO-recognised carpet weaving tradition, empowering rural women and promoting centuries-old craftsmanship through global exhibitions and cultural partnerships.
Azerkhalcha plays a vital role in safeguarding Azerbaijan’s centuries-old carpet weaving tradition, a craft recognised by UNESCO for its cultural significance. With 14 studios across the country and more than 600 skilled weavers, over 85% of them rural women, the organisation keeps ancestral techniques alive while supporting local livelihoods.
Each hand-knotted carpet can take months to complete, reflecting generations of artistry passed through families. Through international exhibitions from Madrid to Tirana, Azerkhalcha promotes Azerbaijani culture worldwide and builds new creative partnerships, ensuring this heritage remains vibrant for future generations.
