MIPTV2015: New audiences, new technologies

This year’s MIPTV participants will have the difficult task of getting to understand what is commonly referred to as ‘Generation Y’. Also known as millennials, those born between 1980 and 2000 are now reaching adulthood and their consumption habits in entertainment, news etc., are under the looking glass of an industry eager to crack their codes. Mobile, video and community are the centre of their world; the millenials’ habits are constantly evolving and are thus the driving force behind many a change in the TV or digital industry.

These changes are the reason the 2015 MIPTV has been dubbed “The Millennial shift.” It’s first and foremost a generational shift but also a global shift, as it happens increasingly across borders. And a global shift means global players, and they are all here for MIPTV. In addition to major North American industry players, this year’s MIPTV is putting Nordic countries at the heart of the event, with conferences and talks featuring experts and leaders from northern Europe. Africa and Asia are also the focus of various events. And, as content producers have to evolve in our globalised world, a whole session on drama glocalisation – with producers from Israel, South Korea and Turkey – promise to help series cross borders, make an international impact and seduce local audiences.

New technologies are vital to delivering the best content to these new audiences. 4k technology will be the centre of the participants’ attention this year with panels of experts sharing their knowledge. Other panels will tell you everything you need to know about new digital innovations in online videos, formats, the 360° viewing experience, drawing creativity out of data and so on.
