Video. Germany heatwave sees Cologne residents cool off in mist

Residents cool off in public sprinklers across Cologne, Germany, as temperatures near 35C, while low Rhine water levels reflect the impact of dry summer weather.

Authorities in the German city of Cologne provided public water sprinklers to allow people to cool off as temperatures reached 35C.

The sprinklers are part of the city's 'Cooling Cologne' campaign, launched in 2025 in partnership with local utility firm RheinEnergie.

The misting systems are installed in areas most affected by extreme heat and operate only when the German Weather Service issues official heat warnings.
