A tornado has swept across Gronau in North Rhine-Westphalia. The German Weather Service is warning of thunderstorms over the weekend.
A tornado swept over the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Gronau on Thursday. The tornado, classified as IF1, produced wind speeds of up to 150 kilometres per hour.

Heading into the weekend, Germany’s national weather service (DWD) is warning of isolated thunderstorms and several hours of rain. For Friday, forecasters predict a mix of sunshine, cloud and scattered showers.
Thunderstorms, heavy rain and small hail are expected, particularly in the north, accompanied by strong gusts of around 65 km/h. Showers are forecast for the night into Saturday.
Daytime highs will range between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius, and only around 16 degrees on the coast.
On Saturday, showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in western Germany. Further east it will stay sunny for longer, although the odd shower is possible, with temperatures climbing to as high as 28 degrees.
Sunday will be cloudy, with showers in places. Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the northeast. Highs will reach about 19 degrees in the northwest, while 26 degrees are expected in the southeast.
