Hundreds of people attended a memorial Mass on Sunday in the Swiss Alpine resort of Crans-Montana to honour the victims of the New Year’s Eve fire at Le Constellation bar.
The service, held at the Chapelle Saint-Christophe, was followed by a silent procession to the site of the blaze, where mourners laid flowers and candles at a makeshift memorial.
Church leaders spoke of the uncertainty and suffering faced by families and friends of the victims.
The fire, which broke out shortly after midnight, killed 40 people and injured 119 others, many of them young.
