Japan is assessing the impact of a 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck late Monday off the coast of Aomori, resulting in minor injuries and light damage.
Authorities said at least 33 people were hurt, mostly by falling objects, according to initial reports. The quake occurred around 11:15pm at a depth of 44 kilometers.
Power outages were largely resolved by Tuesday morning, and officials said they continue to monitor the situation and caution residents about the possibility of aftershocks.
