Updated:

Dressed as characters from Netflix’s The Eternaut, hundreds of scientists marched through Buenos Aires on Wednesday to denounce drastic cuts to Argentina’s science budget.

The demonstration, led by researchers from CONICET, Argentina’s main scientific body, voiced alarm over what they describe as an unprecedented collapse in state investment in science and technology.

Signs reading “There is no future without science” were displayed as scientists took their message underground, boarding the trains.

According to the EPC group, the science budget has fallen from 0.3% of GDP in 2023 to a projected 0.15% in 2025, leading to mass layoffs and fears of another brain drain.
