Moscow is funnelling additional forces to the Avdiivka front line despite ongoing challenges and the failure of a renewed push over the past few days.

Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian defensive fortifications, including minefields, pose a significant challenge to its advances around Avdiivka.

The frontline city is widely viewed as a gateway to recapturing the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk, which is around 20 kilometres away.

The UK defence ministry said the "recent Russian assaults in Avdiivka have contributed to a 90% increase in Russian casualties recorded by the Ukrainian MoD."
