Russian defence ministry says the American aircraft was heading towards its borders.
The Russian Ministry of Defence has released video that it says shows a jet intercepting an American reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic.
An SU-27 fighter jet was scrambled after the American RC-135 plane was identified heading towards the Russian border, the defence ministry's press service said.
It is unclear when the incident took place.
The US has previously criticised the behaviour of Russian pilots, warning that their manouevres can be dangerous.
