A man armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle fired three shots into the window of a restaurant in central Brussels on Monday.

Police said it happened around 10h CET on Avenue Louise, an upmarket shopping street in the Belgian capital.

No-one was injured in the incident.

The police said the motive was unclear but the spokesperson for the prosecutor's office, Ine Van Wymersch, said it was not believed to have been a terrorist attack.
