A Russian military aircraft has crashed in Syria, killing all 32 people on board, according to Russian news agencies.

Twenty-six passengers and six crew were lost in the incident near Hmeymim air base in Latakia Province, according to the Interfax agency.

The Russian Defence ministry was cited saying that preliminary evidence pointed to a technical problem was the likely cause of the crash.

Russia announced it would be withdrawing its forces from Syria after president Vladimir Putin announced during a visit to Hmeymim base that the war on terrorism in the country was being won.
