Paris Saint Germain striker Neymar is to undergo an operation this week on his injured foot.

Paris St Germain forward Neymar will be operated on in Brazil at the end of this week after he suffered a fractured metatarsal and a sprained ankle on Sunday, the club said.

PSG were playing against Ligue 1 opponents Marseille when the 26-year-old injured his foot.

The club said in a statement on Wednesday: "After tests, and with the player's agreement, it has been decided that surgery is the best option."

It means Neymar could be out of action for at least six to eight weeks, his father told ESPN Brasil.

He would therefore miss PSG's last-16 Champions League encounter with Real Madrid on Tuesday, against whom they are trailing 3-1 from the first leg.

PSG bought Neymar last summer for a record-breaking 222 million euros. He has so far scored 29 goals in 30 games with the club.
