American filmmaker Kevin Smith has revealed that he has suffered a massive heart attack.

The 47-year-old tweeted from his hospital bed in California to say that it happened between his comedy stand-up shows on Sunday night.

He said that if he hadn't cancelled the second performance he would have died.

Actor Chris Pratt was among those who went online to send their best wishes to Smith, the director and star of 'Clerks'.
