One onlooker can be heard saying after a second explosion: "That's supposed to happen?"
The incident, which happened around 9pm local time on New Year's Eve, prompted the evacuation of thousands of spectators from Terrigal Beach in New South Wales.
Two men were injured in the incident and transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to local media, citing the police.
