During a speech yesterday (October 13) in the Values Voter Summit, US President Donald Trump said he met with the president of the US Virgin Islands even though he is their president, the US Virgin Islands being a US territory.

“I will tell you, I left Texas, and I left Florida, and I left Louisiana, and I went to Puerto Rico, and I met with the president of the Virgin Islands,” he said.

Trump was referring to Virgin Islands Governor Kenneth Mapp and their meeting after Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria battered the Islands.

When releasing the full transcript of the address, the White House corrected the mention of ‘president of the Virgin Islands’ to ‘governor of the Virgin Islands’.

The gaffe happened the same day Trump threatened to cancel the Iran nuclear deal.
