With Peugeot, Renault and Citroen to choose from, which French brand will Emmanuel Macron pick for his inaugural drive down the Champs Elysees on Sunday as the country’s new president on Sunday?
To help him make his choice, Euronews has taken a look back through history to see what his predecessors did.
General de Gaulle
The legendary Citroen DS chosen by Charles de Gaulle saved the president’s life in August 1962 when there was an attempt on his life.
Citroen was also the favoured choice of President Georges Pompidou – the man who gave his name to the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
Valery Giscard d’Estaing
The Peugeot 604 of Valery Giscard d’Estaing was the first presidential motor not to be black.
Francois Miterrand was at the wheel of his turquoise Renault Super 5 when he arrived in the courtyard of the Elysee to begin his presidency.
