Russia’s female 4×400 metres relay team from the London 2012 Olympics has been disqualified after one of the athletes returned a positive dope test for a banned steroid.

Antonina Krivoshapka who helped the team to Olympic silver is one of hundreds of athletes to have her sample from the Games reanalysed with improved anti-doping methods.

The International Olympic committee on Wednesday banned two other athletes – Russian discus thrower Vera Ganeeva, who finished 23rd in London and Turkish middleweight boxer Adem Kilicci, who reached the quarter-finals.

More failed tests from previous major competitions are widely expected as the IOC’ continues its reanalysis programme.
