European Masters at Crans Montana, Switzerland went to a sudden death playoff between Alex Noren of Sweden and the Australian Scott Hend.
Noren hit a final round of 65.
Hend neatly evaded the water on his way to a 4-under 66 to tie with the Swede at 17 under.
In the playoff Hend hit a tree on his tee shot.
But Noren holed a 10-metre birdie putt at the par-4 18th to earn his sixth win on the European Tour.
It was the Swede’s second Masters title.
England’s Lee Westwood finished fourth.
Danny Willett, the defending champion, hit a final round of 66 to tie 12th.
