Athletes from 40 countries come together from September 3 – 8 to compete in 23 types of traditional sports at the World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan. You can follow the opening ceremony live on this page on Saturday September 3 from 17:00-19:00 CET.
The 6-day event combines sporting competition with a cultural mission to show the world the values, diversity and history of nomadic cultures.
Sports include horse racing, archery, Er enish (horseback wrestling), Jereed (equestrian javelin), Toguz (an intellectual board game) and Kok-boru (a horseback competition that sees competitors score goals with a dead goat).
In addition to sports, the World Nomad Games also features cultural events, concerts and a scientific conference on the theme ‘Nomadic civilization; Historical Heritage and Modernity’.
The slogan of the competition is: ‘United in Force! United in Spirit!’
