Colombia captain James Rodriguez and his team-mates celebrated as Los Cafeteros kept their composure to edge out rivals Peru in the quarter-finals of the Copa America at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The 24-year-old Real Madrid midfielder, who has scored two goals at this tournament so far, looked a real threat going forward but wasn’t able to break the deadlock.
Peru stepped it up a gear in the dying minutes of the game and nearly scored the winner against the run of play but it wasn’t to be as David Ospina tipped Christian Ramos’ powerful header over the bar.
The Arsenal keeper then stole the show in the shootout.

Ospina made an outstanding flying kick save while Christian Cueva sent Peru’s final attempt over the crossbar as Colombia reached the Copa America semifinals for the first time since 2004.
