A state of emergency is in place in parts of the southern German region of Bavaria after heavy floods caused power cuts and chaos.

Some residents in the town of Triftern near the Austrian border were airlifted to safety.

And footage on German television showed locals being rescued from flooded areas by police helicopters.

Around 50 children reportedly spent the night in their school’s gymnasium.

Separately, the Bavarian broadcasting service reported that four people were killed in the floods, with Bavaria hit by storms and heavy rain since the weekend.
