Romanian miners are marching to the capital to protest against the proposed layoff of 800 staff. The workers from state-owned energy company Oltenia Energy Complex began the 300km walk from Targu Jiu to Bucharest on Monday.

The CEO said the decision came as a result of falling demand for coal-based energy. The Oltenia Energy Complex reported losses of almost 200 million Euros in 2015.

Last year the IMF, World Bank and European Commission called on the government to restructure the country’s two largest energy producers.
