Abd al-Rahman Mustafa al-Qaduli, one of the Islamic State (ISIL) group’s purported top commanders, has been killed in a US military operation in Syria, the Pentagon announced on Friday.
Al-Qaduli, known by several aliases including Haji Imam, was one of several ISIL commanders targeted in US raids this week.
“We are systematically eliminating ISIL’s cabinet,” US Defense Secretary Ash Carter told a news conference in Washington.
“Indeed, the US military killed several key ISIL terrorists this week including, we believe, Haji Imam, who was an ISIL leader – a senior leader serving as a finance minister and who also is responsible for some external affairs.”
#SecDef: Like #Paris, #Brussels is a painful reminder of why we need to hasten the defeat of #ISIL wherever it exists in the world.
