Winter hit Iceland in a big way on Tuesday with the first mammoth snowstorm of the season causing havoc for motorists and other travellers.

Despite efforts to clear the white stuff, many roads in and around the capital Reykjavik were blocked and hundreds of youngsters were unable to go to school
