Mexico’s Foreign Minister has arrived in Egpyt. Claudia Ruiz Massieu has travelled to Cairo with the relatives of eight Mexican tourists killed in error by the Egyptian Army.

The aim is to repatriate the dead, support the injured and clarify the circumstances of the tragedy with the Egyptian authorities.

Four other people who died are believed to be Egyptian citizens.

Six people were wounded and are being treated in Cairo’s main hospital.

It happened on Sunday. Egyptian forces hunting militants in the country’s western desert mistakenly opened fire on several vehicles carrying the Mexican tourists.

Cairo says the group were in a forbidden area where the army were hunting militants.
