Mateo Kovacic will be passing to Cristiano Ronaldo instead of tackling him from now on after the Croatia international joined Real Madrid from Inter on Tuesday on a six-season deal.

The Spanish giants have paid the Italians 32 million euros plus three million in add ons.

At Real the 21-year-old midfielder will join forces with Sergio Ramos who recently signed a five year contract extension ending rumours of a move to Manchester United.

He’ll also link up with international teammate Luca Modric although he’ll likely be behind his compatriot in the first team pecking order.

Back home

Roberto Soldado has vowed to return to his best form at Villarreal following a disappointing spell in the English Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 30-year-old striker hit the mark just 16 times in 76 appearances for the Londoners.

He has now returned to his native Spain in a bid to breathe life back into this career.

He’s joined Villarreal for just under 10 million euros and could feature for his new club in their league opener against Real Betis on Sunday.

Rivaldo rivival?

Last month Brazil great Rivaldo came out of retirement to play for Mogi Mirim, who are in the South American nation’s second tier.

After his final match with the club – of which he was acting president – the 43-year-old has now said a club in the United States’ MLS has offered him a contract – although he did not specifiy which club.

Unfortunately for Rivaldo a knee injury has led to the veteran spending more minutes on the doctor’s table than on the pitch and could thwart any move.
