Rescued after five days in the jungle, a mother and her baby who disappeared after their plane crashed into dense vegetation in northwestern Colombia

Rescued after five days in the jungle, a mother and her baby who disappeared after their plane crashed into dense vegetation in northwestern Colombia were found alive and well, in what authorities called a ‘miracle’.

Nelly Murillo had managed to survive by drinking water from coconuts and from large leaves to remain hydrated to breastfeed her five-month-old son.

Murillo is said to have suffered only minor burns and injuries after their twin-engine Cessna went down between Quibdo and Nuqui on Saturday. Rescuers located the plane on Monday and found the pilot dead. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
