It was a great day for Catalonia as three local boys took the top three spots on the grid in qualification for the Catalunya Grand Prix.
Local hero Aleix Espargaro took pole after decimating the lap record in a time of 1’40.546.
His Suzuki team-mate Maverick Viñales was edged into second place by 0.083secs.
Espargaro claimed the first pole position for the Japanese manufacturer since Chris Vermeulen’s at Assen in 2007.
Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo made it four successive front-row starts as he finished 0.1s behind Espargaro in third.
Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez claimed fourth spot while Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi, who leads the standings, was seventh.
