Italy’s Andrea Cassara kept his composure to outclass fellow countryman Daniele Garozzo in the individual foil final at the European Fencing Championships in Montreux, Switzerland.
The 31-year-old, who took gold in the team event at the 2012 Olympic Games, triumphed 15-11 while Violetta Kolobova reigned supreme in the women’s event.
The Russian, who was up against Rossella Fiamingo, beat Hungary’s Emese Szasz in the semis before carrying her momentum into the showpiece match with a 15-12 win over her Italian opponent.
