The winners of the euronews Sportaccord awards were announced in Sochi. Mariusz Wlazly scooped the Sportsman of the year gong. The Polish volleyball World Champion has been winning medal since he was part of the 2003 Polish team which triumphed in the World Junior Championships.

Kaillie Humphries was named Sportswoman of the year. The Canadian bobsledder is the first woman to pilot a mixed-gender team. She is a double Olympic champion and the first in the history of the sport to successfully defend her Olympic title.

The Spirit of Sport award went to the International Netball Federation for delivering international safeguards for children in sport in partnership with UNICEF.

Sochi was named Sport City of the year and Alex Zanardi and Teddy Riner won the Sport Hero award.
