US soul star Percy Sledge has died aged 73 after a battle with cancer.

The singer, best known for the hit When a Man Loves a Woman, died at his Louisiana home, his agent said.

The hit song, recorded by Sledge in 1966, is considered one of the greatest soul songs.

The recording launched Sledge’s career and he was later elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
