Hundreds of people in Dubai have been evacuated from one of the world’s tallest residential buildings after fire swept through The Torch, a 79-storey skyscraper.

A witness said flames shot out from two sides of the building, which stands more than 330 metres tall. There are no reports of any casualties.

Firefighters arriving on at least a dozen fire engines were able to extinguish the blaze several hours after the fire alarm went off at around 2 a.m. local time.

The cause of the blaze is unclear.
