Chilean mountaineers have discovered the wreckage of a plane that crashed in the Andes 54 years ago, killing 24 people, including eight players from the top-flight Green Cross football club. The 1961 disappearance of the Douglas DC-3 stunned the sporting world and became one of Chile’s great unsolved mysteries. At the time, rescuers found the tail end of the craft but the search operation was cancelled due to bad weather.
