A French court has sentenced a mayor to four years in jail in a trial for manslaughter.

The court ruled René Marratier concealed flood risks in La-Faute-Sur-Mer to favour lucrative property developments which resulted in the deaths of 29 people when a sea wall gave in during storm Xynthia in the west of France in 2010.
