Germany’s Iljana Marzok produced a stunning performance to down Morocco’s Assmaa Niang in the final of the under 70 kilo category at the Judo Grand Prix in Qingdao on Thursday.

The already two-time medallist this year was unable to trouble her opponent throughout the contest and eventually suffered a late ippon while Israel’s Yarden Gerbi reigned supreme in the under 63 kilo class.

The 2013 World Champion overcame Pari Surakatova in the semi-finals before carrying her momentum into the showpiece match where she kept her composure to beat Kathrin Unterwurzacher.

In the men’s event, Kuk Hyon Hong clinched the under 73 kilo category with a hard fought win over Belgium’s Dirk Van Tichelt in the final. The bronze medals were won by China’s Shuai Sun and Miklos Ungvari.

The last final of the day opposed the winner of the Zagreb Grand Prix this year, Sirazhudin Magomedov and Italy’s Antonio Ciano.

The Russian dominated his opponent from the outset and scored an early waza-ari which proved to be the decider. Ciano pushed and eventually scored a yuko but it was too little too late as Magomedov held on to secure the under 81 kilo class in China.
