Former Greek minister and senior socialist politician Akis Tsohatzopoulos has been convicted of money laundering in relation to a controversial arms deal, judicial sources told AFP news agency. His sentence has yet to be announced by the Athens court.

The first senior politician tried in decades, Tsohatzopoulos’s trial has become a symbol of the alleged wrongdoings and corruption of the Greek political system, which is seen by much of the population as responsible for the crisis that has affected Greece since 2010.
