Ikea mocked the Italian football team on Twitter after they failed to qualify for the World Cup 2018.

The Azzurri will not be attending the tournament in Russia after drawing with Sweden 0-0 in Monday's (November 13) qualifier.

Well-known Swedish furniture brand Ikea tweeted a picture of a garden bench, making reference to calls for coach Giampiero Ventura to resign, meaning he would lose his spot on the bench.

“So Gian Piero forgives us for losing his bench, we’ll give him a new one,” it read.

Ikea also trolled the Italian team before their games against Sweden with a confectionary-themed Tweet.

The company posted a picture of a tin of biscuits with the caption: "This time no biscuit".

In the Euro 2004 tournament, Sweden and Denmark drew a match, some said on purpose, which resulted in Italy being knocked out of the tournament.

In Italy, unofficial match-fixing is called "biscotto" or "biscuit".
