Eleven active wild fires are continuing to rage on in Portugal across six different fronts with high winds hampering efforts to contain them.

Around 1500 firefighters, 200 military personnel and countless locals are desperately battling the blazes. The Interior Secretary Jorge Gomes, declared his suspicions that the fires were set deliberately.

The fire in Pampilhosa da Serra is said to be the most serious and has left emergency services struggling to cope.

Two villages in the Arganil municipality have been evacuated as a precaution and at least four people including three firefighters have been injured in Anadia.
