Syrian President Assad shows grattitude for Russia, Iran

The Syrian President said on Sunday his country had scuppered Western attempts to topple him. Bashar Assad said Syria, with the help of Russia, has confronted those endeavours.

He was speaking in Damascus at a government and diplomatic meeting at the country’s foreign ministry.

“In Syria we have paid high price for the failed talks…but in any case, the price of resistance is lower than the price of surrender,” he said.

Assad praised the support from his friends and brothers in the fight against terrorism, but insisted, “there will be no security cooperation and no opening of embassies and not even a role for some countries who are trying to have a role in solving the Syrian crisis unless they will clearly cut their relations with terrorism.”

He said the direct military support from Russia, Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah allowed battlefield gains and reduced the burden of war.
