This summer holiday you will surely be indulging in an ice cream or two, but did you ever stop to wonder where your sweet treat came from?
Unsurprisingly, according to Eurostat.com Italy is the largest producer of the sweet stuff in the European Union, producing a whopping 595 million litres in 2016 (19% EU’s total production for that year).
Germany came in at a close second making 514 million litres (16% of the EU’s total production) and France 454 million litres (14%).
The UK, who are known to enjoy a cornet on the beach, produced a measly 257 million litres.
Austria was was the lowest recorded producer at nearly 2 million litres.
