On and off-court stars shine at inaugural NBA awards

Former and current NBA stars mixed with off-court celebrities at the first-ever NBA awards in New York.

There were several prizes up for grabs with the coveted MVP or most valuable player of the year award going to Russell Westbrook.

Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell, who played in the league between 1956-1969, was given a lifetime achievement award from a string of fellow legends including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Shaquille O’Neal.

The Milwaukee Bucks’ rising star Malcolm Brogdon was rewarded with the rookie of the year award. And Brogdon’s Greek team-mate Giannis Antetokounmpo was also recognised by his peers his performances this year as he picked up the NBA’s most improved player prize.
