Barcelona put one foot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after beating Arsenal 2-0 in London in the first leg of their last 16 clash.

The unstoppable Lionel Messi scored both goals for the defending champions – his first coming on 71 minutes to break the deadlock.

His second came from the penalty spot after he was felled in the box by Mathieu Flamini with six minutes of the game remaining.

Arsenal have it all to do now in the return leg in Spain in just over three weeks time.

Elsewhere on the night Juventus came from two goals down to draw with Bayern Munich in the first leg of their last 16 tie in Turin.

Thomas Mueller and Arjen Robben put the visiting Germans in front with goals either side of half time.

Paulo Dybala pulled one back just after the hour mark while Stefano Sturaro secured the draw for Juventus who now face a tricky second leg at the Allianz Arena.
