Turkish media is reporting that an SU-24 fighter-bomber has been shot down near Latakia on the Turkish border after it entered Turkish airspace.

The reports cite “military sources”.

Al Jazeera’s Arabic-language service is claiming that the plane is Russian, and this has just been confirmed by the Russian Defence Ministry.

Initial reports spoke of a plane “crashing in flames” before this was corrected to say the plane had been downed by the Turkish military.
