French teachers strike over reforms

<p>Teachers in France went on strike on Tuesday and demonstrated against planned reforms.</p> <p>The country’s 840,000 teachers oppose to the plans, the unions say, fearing they will increase competition between schools and lead to inequalities.</p> <p>They could also lead to teachers performing tasks outside of their training.</p> <p>The reforms to secondary education aims to give schools more choices over what they can teach, promote interdisciplinary learning and combat elitism.</p> <p>Schooling is an especially sensitive subject in France because it prides itself on equal access to education.</p>
