The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, 11 European Red Cross societies, and the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection have launched a Europe-wide campaign to highlight the world’s ‘silent disasters’ – humanitarian crises which often don’t grab the headlines, yet are anything but silent to the people impacted.

According to Red Cross research, 91% of the disasters they respond to often go unnoticed and can fail to attract the funds needed to provide essential support to help the recovery process, or prepare for the next disaster. The month-long campaign aims to raise awareness about ‘silent disasters’ around the world and draw attention to the critical importance of making sure these disasters no longer remain silent for the millions they affect.
