The demonstration took place on the day of an unofficial deadline set by citizen-led groups calling for foreign nationals to leave South Africa.

Speaking during the march, leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma said the turnout reflected public frustration and called on the government to respond to concerns over immigration enforcement. She said protesters wanted answers and felt existing laws were not being properly applied.

Police were deployed across the area to monitor the gathering and reduce the risk of unrest as crowds moved through the streets with flags and chants.
