Video. General strike empties streets in Ramallah over Israel’s death penalty law

Shops shut and streets fell quiet in Ramallah as a general strike was held in protest against Israel’s newly approved death penalty law targeting Palestinians.

Shops were closed and streets largely empty in Ramallah as a general strike took place following Israel’s approval of a new death penalty law.

The legislation allows for the execution of Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks classified as terrorism.

Footage shows shuttered storefronts, quiet roads and limited movement in the city centre, including al-Manara square.

A few pedestrians and cyclists pass through largely deserted streets, while Palestinian flags are visible.
