Video. Thailand: Heavy rainfall causes severe flooding in southern provinces

Updated:

Days of relentless rain have triggered severe flooding across southern Thailand, inundating towns, disrupting transport and hospitals, and affecting tens of thousands of households.

Days of heavy rain driven by a cold front have caused severe flooding across four southern Thai provinces — Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla.

In Surat Thani, seven districts, including the badly affected Chaiya, have been declared disaster zones, with more than 6,500 households impacted, schools closed and water levels reaching up to one metre in some areas. Authorities and troops are delivering food and drinking water to stranded residents.
